All teachers are automatically vetted by NZ Teachers' Council as a part of Teacher registration every three years.
All other staff, for example, support staff and custodial staff are vetted every three years through NZ Teachers Council.
Parents and other volunteers are vetted through the NZ Police where it is considered necessary. This will definitely apply to volunteers who will spend an extended amount of time working with students in high trust situations, such as school camps. If there is any doubt as to whether a police vet is required or not, the police vet will be done. As police vets can take up to 6 weeks to process this needs to be done well in advance.
All contractors who are to work on the site for an extended period of time are also police vetted through the NZ Teachers' Council. Attempts are made to ensure that vetting is completed before the contractors commence work on site. The site contractor provides the details of all contractors who will be working on the site.
The designated school receiver of vetting information from the police is the school principal.
There is a fee for each vetting application. This fee will be covered by the school. Once volunteers have completed and signed the vetting forms they are to be handed (via the event organiser) to the principal for processing and posting.
