Panui a te Tumuaki
Wow! We have already had our school production in Week 1, Yr 7&8 camp in Raglan happened last week, our Tuu Pono kapa haka group are practicing for the Tainui Kapa Haka Regionals this coming Saturday and we have Tuakana/Teina athletics next Wednesday.
TE PONO ME TE AROHA
Our school production was AMAZING!!! We have so much talent in our kura. From our tumeke kaiako who planned the theme and what they would do. Our miharo tamariki who sang, acted, danced and played instruments throughout the production. Our rawe parents who made costumes and props, tutored groups, did stage work, took photos and filmed the production and our tino pai haapori who flocked to our school to watch their tamariki and mokopuna perform. If you haven't watched the production yet, then please do so. The link is attached. We also have a short video of the dress rehearsal.
SCHOLASTIC BOOKS SUMMER FAIR
Our school book fair held in June proved to be so popular that Whaea Christy decided to have a summer book fair. Our new selection of books arrived last Friday and the book fair will be in the music room this week.
Tamariki will view the books tomorrow and bring their wish lists home. Days/Times for parents to view are:
Tuesday 8th November 8:30-9:30am and 3:00-4:00pm
Wednesday 9th November 8:30-9:30am and 3:00-4:00pm
Thursday 10th November 8:30-9:30am and 3:00-4:00pm
TAINUI KAPA HAKA REGIONALS
We are excited to see our Tuu Pono Kapa Haka roopu perform at the Tainui Primary Schools Kapa Haka Regionals this Saturday 12th of November. It will be held at Te Kura Kaupapa Maaori o Rakaumangamanga in Huntly. This is the very first time that our kura have stood at a kapa haka competition of this magnitude. Our tamariki and kaiako are working so hard for this event. It is going to be TUMEKE!
SCHOOL ATHLETICS
We have our annual Tuakana/Teina athletics on Wednesday 16th of November and Potiki Athletics on Tuesday 22nd of November. We hope our haapori/community can come and watch their tamariki at their events.
Our PTA will do a lunch fundraiser at the Tuakana/Teina Athletics. If you choose to purchase kai from the PTA, please use mykindo for your pre-orders.
EDUCATION REVIEW OFFICE
ERO evaluator Michelle Thurlow is visiting our kura next week and will observe the teaching and learning programmes in our classes and korero with some of our tamariki about their learning. Michelle visited our kura earlier this year and spoke to our school board, our kaiako and a few of our tamariki. As part of the new ERO process she will visit several times as she puts together an evaluative report of our kura. I have found this process to be very supportive and positive of our school mission statement and our overall vision for our tamariki and haapori. The Koromata School Mission Statement is attached.
ENROLMENTS 2023
We are in the midst of planning classes for next year and we are wanting to gauge an approximate number for our New Entrant Class and other year levels for 2023.
If you or someone you know has a child who is starting at Koromatua School or has moved into our area, would you please let Whaea Sue in the office know by emailing enquiries@koromatua.school.nz
We need to know who these students are as soon as possible as it will help us greatly as we plan our classes for 2023.
OUT OF ZONE ENROLMENT APPLICATIONS OPEN
These opened at the end of Term 3 and will now close on Thursday the 1st of December. This is a change of date from the previous newsletter. The later date is so we have as close to the exact roll numbers for 2023. It is always dependent on who moves into the school zone over the summer holidays. However we should have a better idea of our student roll by that time. Depending on the number of applications, there may need to be a ballot. If this is the case it will be done on Wednesday the 7th of December.
How does the application process work?
1. First priority must be for special programmes. This is not applicable at this school because the school does not run special programmes.
2. Second priority must be given to any applicant who is the sibling of a current student of the school.
3. Third priority must be given to any student who is the sibling of a former student of the school.
4. Fourth priority must be given to any applicant who is a child of a former student of the school.
5. Fifth priority must be given to any applicant who is either a child of an employee of the board of the school or a child of a member of the board of the school.
6. Sixth priority is given to all other applicants.
STAFF ONLY DAY
Monday 28th November - This day has been set aside for our staff to work on end of year mahi, in particular student's end of year reports and to plan and prepare for 2023. Students will not be attending kura. Please organise alternative arrangements for your tamariki on that day.
FAREWELL
On Friday the 28th of October we farewelled Whaea Kelly Butters as the Room 7 kaiako. Whaea Kelly has already taught at our kura and it was wonderful to see her again, especially as she knew most of the tamariki in that class. We are very grateful for the time that Whaea Kelly was here and we wish her and her whaanau all the very best as she takes some time to focus on her and her own tamariki.
Whaea Desi will continue to teach in Room 7. The tamariki are very familiar with Whaea Desi as she has taught them throughout this year.
Ngaa mihinui ki a koorua mo to koha ki to taatou kura.
WELCOME
We extend a warm welcome to Whaea Arlette Brown who has joined us as a kaimahi/learning assistant working in our Potiki and Teina classrooms. We are very familiar with Whaea Arlette as she is often in kura helping with school events, leading kapa haka fundraisers and most recently helping with our school production. We are very grateful to have Whaea Arlette in our kura and wish her all the best in her new role.
BE KIND - KIA ATAWHAI
Parents would you please talk to your tamariki about showing kindness. Our uara/values all come from pono/truth and aroha/love. Being kind exemplifies both those values. Some of our tamariki are feeling mamae/hurt because other tamariki are not being kind to them. This past week I have been informed of a few incidents where kindness is not being shown to others.
Our tamariki need to feel that kura is a safe space where they are able to learn and interact with others. Please help us by reminding your tamariki what kindness looks like, sounds like and feels like. I hope you show your tamariki Tori Kelly's waiata 'Try a little kindness'. It illustrates what we ALL can do to show kindness.
Kia haumaru, Kia atawhai
Nga mihi aroha,
Rosina Nin

SCHOOL POLO SHIRTS
Whaea Sue has samples of the polo shirts in various sizes. Tamariki can try them on at kura and purchases are made through myKindo.
Look What We're Up To! 🤩
CELLPHONES
Year 7 or 8 students can bring their cellphone to school to use in emergencies. However they must hand it in to the office before school starts (8:45am) and pick it up again after school (3:00pm). This replaces the procedure of students leaving their cellphones in their bags. Students who do not adhere to this guideline will be asked to leave their cellphones at home for a period of time and their parents will be contacted regarding this matter.

CAMPS
Camp Raglan Year 7&8
Camp Raglan was so awesome. Our tamariki had awesome maatua/parents, yummy kai, fun activities and great weather. A very big mihi to our parent helpers. Thank you Hopi Elkington, Bronson Daniels, Keola Josephs, Jan Masei, Tui Fau, Jessie Scirkovich and Kay Huia. Your awhi, manaaki, tautoko and aroha was very evident as you helped our tamariki at the various activities and with general mahi. Camp Raglan would not have been possible without you all.
Thanks also to Raha Elkington and Whaea Desi who helped on Thursday.

KAPA HAKA
Tuu Pono Kapa Haka - Tainui Primary Schools Kapa Haka Regionals
I can't wait to watch our Tuu Pono tamariki perform this Saturday in Session 4 at 4pm. I am so proud of our tamariki and all the mahi they have done. A very big mihi to Whaea Tish, Matua Tahi, Whaea Nelz, Whaea Raharu and Whaea Esta for tutoring our tamariki. It takes a village to raise a child and we certainly have a village who are teaching and supporting our tamariki. Special thanks to Whaea Arlette for leading the fundraising and working alongside our other wonderful parents to cook kai, work in the kitchen, transport tamariki and stay overnight at our noho marae.
