Panui a te Tumuaki
Welcome back to Term 4. The final term for this year.I hope you had a safe and enjoyable break and your tamariki are ready for kura.
It is a jam packed term with our school production this week, Yr 7&8 camp in Raglan, Tainui Kapa Haka Regionals, School Athletics, Inter-school Athletics, Potiki Zoo Trip, Year 5&6 camp in Karakariki, PTA Fun Day, Class shared lunches, Year 8 Graduating Dinner and End of Year Prizegivings.
This week is our school production 'Te Pono me Te Aroha' which depicts our school values through the eyes of our Atua Maaori. The staff and tamariki have been working so hard to prepare their performance for you all. We hope you can come and watch the show one one of these days and times.

Friday 21st October - Evening Show 6:30pm at Koromatua School Hall

WHAANAU WATCHING THE SHOW
Thursday 20th October - Students whose surnames start with A - J
Friday 21st October - Students whose surnames start with K - W
This for the two evening shows only. The matinee is open to anyone. The reason we are doing this for the evening shows is to keep numbers at a safe ratio and the audience having a clear view of the performers. If you need to swap nights please email me at principal@koromatua.school.nz
STUDENTS NOT PERFORMING
This is a school event so it is expected that every child will participate in our school production. However if your child is unable to perform in a show due to being away or they are sick you will need to email their kaiako. It is very important for their class performance as adjustments will need to be made and it is considerate to their kaiako and class members.
HAMILTON NZ TEMPLE REDEDICATION
It was a wonderful week for members of the Temple View community and wider Hamilton area. An important leader of our church (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints), Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf visited our area to rededicate the Hamilton, NZ Temple. Elder Uchtdorf was warmly welcomed with a powhiri by Te Kapa Haka o Tuhikaramea. Esta Metekingi is one of our leaders of this roopu and several parents and past students of Koromatua school participated in this important occasion.
Sunday the 16th of October marked a very historic event for our community. It was the rededication of our Temple which will finally reopen it's doors this week, after four years being closed due to extensive renovations. This event was the whole purpose for Elder Uchtdorf's visit and what a joyous occasion it was for so many of our whaanau.
ENROLMENTS 2023
We are in the midst of planning classes for next year and we are wanting to gauge an approximate number for our New Entrant Class and other year levels for 2023.
If you or someone you know has a child who is starting at Koromatua School or has moved into our area, would you please let Whaea Sue in the office know by emailing enquiries@koromatua.school.nz
We need to know who these students are as soon as possible as it will help us greatly as we plan our classes for 2023.
OUT OF ZONE ENROLMENT APPLICATIONS OPEN
These opened at the end of Term 3 and will now close on Thursday the 1st of December. This is a change of date from the previous newsletter. The later date is so we have as close to the exact roll numbers for 2023. It is always dependent on who moves into the school zone over the summer holidays. However we should have a better idea of our student roll by that time. Depending on the number of applications, there may need to be a ballot. If this is the case it will be done on Wednesday the 7th of December.
How does the application process work?
1. First priority must be for special programmes. This is not applicable at this school because the school does not run special programmes.
2. Second priority must be given to any applicant who is the sibling of a current student of the school.
3. Third priority must be given to any student who is the sibling of a former student of the school.
4. Fourth priority must be given to any applicant who is a child of a former student of the school.
5. Fifth priority must be given to any applicant who is either a child of an employee of the board of the school or a child of a member of the board of the school.
6. Sixth priority is given to all other applicants.
CELLPHONES
Year 7 or 8 student can bring their cellphone to school to use in emergencies. However they must hand it in to the office before school starts (8:45am) and pick it up again after school (3:00pm). This replaces the procedure of students leaving their cellphones in their bags. If a student is observed with a phone, they will be asked to take it to the office. If possible, students should lock their phone before handing it to staff. Cellphones may not be taken on EOTC events.
NORDSTROM WHAANAU
Finally, I would like to extend our sincerest condolences to the Nordstrom whaanau who are mourning the passing of their father and koro, Peter Nordstrom. Some of our tamariki both past and present, are the mokopuna of Peter and Rae. Aotea, Lyon, Julian and Ari are the tamariki of Zion and Kaleb. Skye and Storm are the tamariki of Colin and Little-Joe.
Koro Pete had a large influence on many rangatahi as he coached and mentored them in numerous sports such as rugby, basketball and waka ama. He and his wife, Rae have also helped many whaanau and their tamariki to improve their well-being.
Koro Pete's devotion and love was to his wife, Rae their own children and especially their mokopuna. They were his greatest joy! At the recent AIMS Games held in Tauranga, Zion and Kaleb coached the girls basketball team and the boys rugby 7's team. Koro Pete's highlight was being able to watch his mokopuna play through the livestreams that were put up each day. Even though Koro Pete was too ill to watch in person, he was able to do so online and that made his day.
Moe mai ra e te rangatira. Kua hinga te totara i te wao nui a Tane. Ka mau tonu to taonga tuku iho ki to tamariki me mokopuna.
Nga mihi aroha,
Rosina Nin
