Panui a te Tumuaki
Welcome to Week 10 already! Wow the time has flown by so fast.
MASK WEARING
Our Year 4-8 students do not have to wear masks in class and our 12 and 13 year olds are not required to wear masks on the school bus. However tamariki and kaiako can still wear masks if they choose to do so.
QUEEN ELIZABETH PUBLIC MEMORIAL DAY
Monday 26th of September is the Queen's Memorial Day. All schools across New Zealand were closed yesterday to mark the passing of Queen Elizabeth the 2nd.
HAMILTON NZ TEMPLE OPEN HOUSE
What an amazing experience for all whanau who were involved in this historic event. I know for me as it would be for many whanau, the Temple Open House was a time to meet new people, rekindle old friendships, volunteer our time for others and to bring our own families to visit the Temple.
A highlight for me was the opportunity to take our staff members through the Temple. We were very privileged to have Matua Tahi, Whaea Raharu, Matua Tahi and Whaea Jewel guide their colleagues during the Temple tour. We had the messages shared in Te Reo Maaori and Te Reo Pakeha. What a wonderful time it was to share who we are and what we believe with our staff whanau.
WAIKATO FULL PRIMARY SCHOOL ASSOCIATION SPEECH FINALS
We had three of our Year 7&8 students represent our kura last Wednesday evening at the WFPSA Speech Finals. Te Manawa Turangi-Joseph (Yr 7 Boys), Mia Christensen (Yr 8 Girls) and Seddon Cassidy (Yr 8 Boys). These three tamariki won their sections at the Semi-Finals last week and shared their amazing speeches. A very big mihi to Mia who came 1st in the Year 8 Girls section and was the overall runner-up of the night. Congratulations e kotiro!
I want to acknowledge their whanau who helped these tamariki prepare for this event.

MANGAKOTUKUTUKU CULTURAL FESTIVAL - FRIDAY 30 SEPTEMBER
This event is a wonderful opportunity for us to celebrate the cultural diversity of our tamariki in our community. A newsletter was sent home on Friday. A copy of the newsletter has been attached.
ENROLMENTS 2023
We are in the midst of planning classes for next year and we are wanting to gauge an approximate number for our New Entrant Class and other year levels for 2023.
If you or someone you know has a child who is starting at Koromatua School or has moved into our area, would you please let Whaea Sue in the office know by emailing enquiries@koromatua.school.nz
OUT OF ZONE ENROLMENT APPLICATIONS OPEN
These opened last Monday 19th of September and will close Wednesday 19th of October. Depending on the number of applications, there may need to be a ballot. If this is the case it will be done on Wednesday 26th of October.
How does the application process work?
1. First priority must be for special programmes. This is not applicable at this school because the school does not run special programmes.
2. Second priority must be given to any applicant who is the sibling of a current student of the school.
3. Third priority must be given to any student who is the sibling of a former student of the school.
4. Fourth priority must be given to any applicant who is a child of a former student of the school.
5. Fifth priority must be given to any applicant who is either a child of an employee of the board of the school or a child of a member of the board of the school.
6. Sixth priority is given to all other applicants.
CELLPHONES
Year 7 or 8 student can bring their cellphone to school to use in emergencies. However they must hand it in to the office before school starts (8:45am) and pick it up again after school (3:00pm). This replaces the procedure of students leaving their cellphones in their bags. If a student is observed with a phone, they will be asked to take it to the office. If possible, students should lock their phone before handing it to staff. Cellphones may not be taken on EOTC events.
HAPPY AND SAFE HOLIDAYS
We wish all our tamariki and their whaanau a very safe and happy holiday. To those tamariki competing in a sports competition or another event we wish you all the very best of luck and hope that you will play hard and have fun. Thank you for bringing your tamaiti to Koromatua school.
We look forward to seeing all our tamariki on Monday the 17th of October at 9:00am. We will be having a powhiri for all our new tamariki and their whaanau at 9:30am.
Nga mihi aroha,
Rosina Nin

SCHOOL PRODUCTION
This year is our school production and usually it is held in Term 3. However this school event will now be in Term 4 Week 1.
Dates for the performances will be:
Thursday 20th October - Matinee show 11:30am
Thursday 20th October - Evening show 6:30pm
Friday 21st October - Evening Show 6:30pm
The matinee will now be on Thursday 20th of October NOT Wednesday 19th of October.
All performances will be in our school hall. Ticket sales will be payable through MyKindo.
Tickets are $2 per person. Children 0-2 yrs are free.
Due to health and safety regulations we need safe numbers for each night show so whanau have been assigned a certain night to attend.
WHAANAU WATCHING THE SHOW
Thursday 20th October - Students whose surnames start with A - J
Friday 21st October - Students whose surnames start with K - W
I understand that the night assigned to whanau may not suit everyone, but it would help with keeping numbers at a safe ratio and the audience having a clear view of the performers. If you need to swap nights please email me at principal@koromatua.school.nz so if needs be, numbers can be adjusted.
STUDENTS NOT PERFORMING
This is a school event so it is expected that every child will participate in our school production. However if your child is unable to perform in a show due to being away you will need to email their kaiako. We have been informed that some whanau will be away at a Basketball Tournament on Friday. This is why you need to inform your child's kaiako as soon as possible. It is very important for their class performance.
