General Parent Information

School Hours

Classes start at	9.00 a.m.
Interval is from	10.30 a.m.-11.00 a.m.
Lunch is from	12.30 p.m.-1.30 p.m.
School closes at	3.00 p.m.

Students are expected to be at school by 8.45am to give them time to relax and settle, and get ready for the day.

Te Reo Maori Bilingual/Immersion Class Here at Koromatua School we have 4 Bilingual Classes - Year 3/4&5, Year 5 & 6, and (2) Year 7 & 8 for Te Reo Maori. If you would like your child to be considered for these classes, please fill in an expression of interest form.

Stationery A classroom list of required stationery is available on myschool.co.nz and our school website.

Attendance Attendance is monitored twice a day. Please contact the school to advise of any absences (Ph 847 9828), enquiries@koromatua.school.nz, or @school app. We do let parents know of their child's attendance on their half yearly school reports. Illnesses such as Vomiting and/or Diarrhoea require a 48 hour exclusion from school after last episode. Please include this with your absence notice when appropriate.

Parking and Picking Up For students safety, parents are not permitted to park in the staff carparks or to drop off students in the school driveway. Parent's parks are at the from of the school. Please do not park in the bus bay entrance or exit.

Mobility Parks Please keep the Mobility Spaces vacant at all times for our mobility card holding students/parents.

School Bus Morning Run: The pick up point is at the Temple View Foster Road LDS Chapel carpark. The bus arrives around 8:20am and leaves at 8:30am. Students should wait under the chapel eave on wet days. In fine weather, students line up on the chapel footpath before boarding the bus.

Afternoon Run: In the afternoon, the bus goes straight to Temple View, leaving school at approximately 3:10pm.

Eligibility to catch the school bus is as follows: 8 years and under - Cowley Drive, Goodwin Terrace. Foster Road (from #110 onwards); Deseret Road (all); Wiser Place (all); McKay Drive (#45 +, #40 up to Maynard Drive and continuing on the side of the road up to Market Street to #83a).

School Polo Shirts The school polo shirt is compulsory as of 2023. It is to be worn at school events and when travelling offsite.

Powhiri Welcome On the first day of each term. a powhiri is held in the school hall at 9:30am. The powhiri is led by our Kapa Haka group. The whole school gathers in the hall to welcome new students, new whanau, new teachers, staff and friends of the school. If you are coming to the powhiri as Manuhiri (a guest), you are asked to go to the school staffroom at 9:15am. A staff member will welcome you and guide you through each part of the powhiri ceremony. At the end of the ceremony, all our new whanau & adults are invited to have morning tea in the hall.

Lost property Please name your child's clothing so that it can be returned if it is lost. All unclaimed lost property will be donated to charity fortnightly and at the end of each term.

Litter Free School It is our aim to have no litter in the school buildings and grounds. This makes our school more attractive and saves money and time collecting carelessly discarded litter. All food scraps from student lunchboxes are put into worm bins. All other waste is put back into student lunchboxes and taken home.

Reports and Interviews Parents are invited to a 'Meet the Teacher" interview in Term 1. Written reports are sent home twice a year at the end of Term 2 and Term 4. These reports indicate your child's progress and achievement in reading, writing, mathematics and other curriculum areas. Although formal parent/teacher meetings are held during the year, you are welcome to organise further appointments with your child's teacher if required.

Communication School Newsletters are available on our school website: www.koromatua.school.nz fortnightly and includes information about the school and current events.

Sun Safety Koromatua School is a Sun Smart school and all students are required to wear a full brimmed hat in Terms 1 and 4. Children without a suitable hat at morning tea and lunchtime have to play in designated shaded areas. Students are encouraged to wear clothing that is cool but gives good sun protection.

Koromatua School PTA We have a keen group of parents who lend their time and talents to support the school's programmes. They particularly fund raise for targeted needs in the school. If you are interested in participating in the PTA, please contact them through our website. Meeting times are also posted therein.

Koromatua BOT The parent run Board of Trustees (BOT), elected by the school community, provides the governance for the school. You are welcome to attend board meetings, which at the moment are held online. Please contact the BOT chairman or secretary for further details and meeting times.

Payments All payments are to be made through the MyKindo App. ( ie. Polo Shirts, Camp Fees. etc.). Download the App for your device from your App store. Create an account. Add money to the account. It is now ready to use for purchases. Invoices will need to be sighted by office staff before items (Polo Shirts) will be delivered to students.
